Simple Apple Galette

Two weekends ago, my mum and I took a trip to Miller\’s Big Red to pick some apples. We picked at least five different varieties. After trying to come up with different things to make we decided on a simple galette.

Simple Apple Galette
Ingredients
Dough (I used a Marie Callender frozen pie crust)
5-7 medium apples (any kind will work, I like firm & crisp best)
3 tablespoons butter
sugar
cinnamon

Directions
1. If using a frozen crust (like i did), remove it from the pie tin and place it onto a cookie sheet covered in foil.
2. Peel, core and slice apples.
3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
4. Begin to layer the apples on top of each other inside the pie shell. Be sure to sprinkle with a bit of sugar.
5. Repeat layering apples and sprinkling with sugar.
6. Sprinkle the top layer with cinnamon.
7. Fold in the sides of the dough and bring it in up over the apple slices.
8. Pour the melted butter on the apples and the crust and sprinkle with more sugar.
9. Bake in the oven until the crust browns and the apples soften. It took 40 minutes in my oven, but make sure you check on it.
10. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
11. Enjoy a taste of fall.

Note: I drizzled a frosting on mine after it cooled for 20 minutes. The frosting was a powdered sugar and milk mixture.

Coffee Bean Candle

This fall welcome guests with a new aroma – coffee bean candles. When it comes to scents the possibilities are endless.
What you need:
Glass Container (I used an empty Bath & Body Works large candle jar)
Coffee (I mixed Hazelnut & French Vanilla)
Vanilla Tea Lights (I liked the Better Homes ones from Walmart the best)
Instructions:
Grab your glass container (decorative bowl, mason jars…etc work well too), fill it up with coffee beans and pop a tea light candle right into the center. Light the candle and as the candle warms it\’ll heat the beans fill the room with an amazing aroma. Each time you light a new candle make sure to shake around the beans to energize the scent.
Note: I just made this with pumpkin spice coffee and the aroma is amazing.

Fall To-Do List

I\’m lucky enough to live in a state where all four seasons are present. I do have a spot in my heart for all four seasons, but I must admit fall in Michigan is my favorite. Weekends are filled with trips to the cider mill (Yates is my favorite), picking apples at Miller\’s Big Red and of course baking. Since Sunday was the official kickoff to fall, here\’s a list of things I\’m planning on doing this autumn.

1. Visit Yates for the best apple cider in the state and molasses cookies.
2. Closet purge (I don\’t wear half the things I own).
3. Go to another wine and canvas night.
4. Zombie Run.
5. Pick apples with my mum.
6. Make a pumpkin pie completely from scratch.
7. Master three new soups. (have a good recipe? please share!)
8. Host a chili bar party.
9. Master how to make pie crusts.
10. Go on a tunnel of trees tour.
11. Attend Pilates in the woods.

What\’s on your fall to-do list?

Sponsored Post: Barefoot Refresh

This past weekend I hosted a girls night which consisted of sweet treats, manicures/pedicures and of course wine. The wine of choice: Barefoot Refresh, a new offering from Barefoot Wine & Bubbly and it\’s their take on a wine spritzer. We sampled Sweet White and Perfectly Pink both options I picked are sweet which is always a favorite at girls night. What I loved most about these two wines is they reminded me of a fizzy drink, which was the perfect way to settle into fall.

I\’ll be honest when it came to picking out two of these wines to try out I didn\’t read the descriptions I simply went off of the name of the name. I am not a drinker and when it comes to picking out wines I always pick the on ones with the cute labels (these have glitter flakes on them) or a cute name (Perfectly Pink….really who could pass that one up). For just picking based on names my friends loved the wines and I would definitely give these as a gift during the holidays.
\”The product and promotional item were provided by Barefoot Wine & Bubbly for this review.\” All opinions are my own.

Sweet White: Riesling blended with Chenin Blanc.

This was a hit or miss with everyone, either they absolutely loved it or they didn\’t like it at all. The flavor is sweet, but some found it overpowering or underwhelming.

Perfectly Pink: White Grenache blended with Chenin Blanc and Moscato.

Perfectly Pink was a huge hit and will now be a New Years Eve staple for me. We did prefer this one over ice like it says on the label as opposed to just chilled.

(sweet treat)

The best part about these wines is that they can be enjoyed chilled, over ice or incorporated into a cocktail or punch. I\’m thinking sangria with these would be amazing and for only $8 a bottle you can\’t go wrong!
