Friday Favorites 2.26.21

And just like that, it\’s Friday again. For me, I think the week started to cruise by when the weather turned from single digits to blue skies and upper 40\’s. There\’s just something about beautiful weather that instantly transforms my mood. Sunday Jackers and I ventured out to the water to soak in some much-needed vitamin D and the whole week has followed suit. Let\’s talk about some faves from the past week:

Disney released the trailer to Luca and I can\’t wait for that adventure this summer.

Disney also made sure to pump up its followers about The Mighty Ducks Game Changers series headed to Disney Plus in March.

You can check out Land (the movie I can\’t stop talking about) in theaters now and On Demand March 5!

Prepare for all the summer camp vibes you can handle courtesy of the Netflix trailer to A Week Away.

Looking to try some new recipes? I am sharing three Southeast Asian recipes inspired by Disney\’s Raya and the Last Dragon.

Need a movie to watch this weekend? You don\’t want to miss Flora and Ulysses on Disney Plus – it\’s honestly too adorable for words!

I\’ve been looking for some spring nail polish colors to give myself a little refresh, and am loving Northern Nail Polish Mackinac Island and America\’s High Five for spring.

My nails have been complete suck lately. Zoya just released Rescue + Repair – the simple solution for sucky nails. I just started using it and will report back next week.

I am beyond obsessed with Williams Sonoma partnering with Amirah Kassem\’s Soho-based Flour Shop bakery to bring the run Rainbow Explosion cake home with a DIY Rainbow Explosion Cake Kit. I think I need it for my birthday!

Southeast Asian Recipes Inspired By Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon

If you\’re like me, you\’re probably missing travel. One thing I love about traveling is trying new foods, you never know what you\’ll discover. This year I decided to start a personal journey and make or order foods from places I want to visit or that surround a movie (remember when I made this amazing ratatouille while Jack and I enjoyed watching Ratatouille on Disney Plus?).

I recently learned that Disney\’s new movie Raya and the Last Dragon (coming to theaters and Disney Plus Premier Access March 5) is inspired by Southeast Asia and Southeast Asian cuisine plays a unique role in the film. You know that got me completely inspired to make some Southeast Asian food, and I spent some time looking up various recipes and one thing I learned is some of the sauces that make Southeast Asian food taste the way it does require a wide variety of ingredients and that can get costly quick.

Disney must have known that us foodies would want to give Southeast Asian cuisine a try, and they partnered with OMSOM to bring a few good recipes and all you need are these OMSOM sauce kits! Check out the recipes below! I cannot wait to make the Lemongrass Barbecue Salmon! Yum!

Don\’t forget to catch Raya and the Last Dragon in theaters and on Disney Plus Premier Access Friday, March 5!

Synopsis of RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON
Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.  From directors Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, co-directors Paul Briggs and John Ripa, and featuring the voices of Kelly Marie Tran as Raya and Awkwafina as the last dragon Sisu.

Movie Review: Disney Flora and Ulysses

Flora and Ulysses movie review
Disney\’s Flora and Ulysses was released on Disney Plus today, and I just had a chance to watch it. If you\’re looking for something to watch this weekend, I highly recommend checking out Flora and Ulysses, adorable, sweet, and it will give you all the feels.

Heroes come in all different shapes and sizes. Sometimes you end up discovering them unexpectedly. In the latest Disney Plus release Flora and Ulysses, an unexpected superhero comes to life in a fun story. Based on the book by Kate DiCamillo, Flora and Ulysses is about an unlikely friendship between Flora a young girl who is superhero obsessed (thanks to her dad), and her new friend Ulysses a squirrel with superpowers.

Like any good superhero, Ulysses has enemies, and when you\’re a squirrel those enemies are humans that just don\’t understand. This allows for some great comedic moments throughout the film. While I wouldn\’t recommend getting a squirrel as a pet (a cute stuffy of Ulysses is approved of though), I do recommend checking out Flora and Ulysses. The premise may sound silly, and it is, but it is everything light-hearted that we could use right now and will definitely keep the whole family entertained.

I cannot recommend Flora and Ulysses enough. In fact, I told my mum to watch it and she just can\’t get enough of it!

Movie Review: Nomadland

Nomadland Movie Review

Nomadland is now streaming on Hulu.

Imagine a place on the map so tied to its indutries that when the work disappears, so does the place. During the opening of Nomadland they simply state that a zip code can be \”discontinued\”, but what happens to the people who live in that town?

Fern (Frances McDormand) is grieving a life that’s been ripped away from her. From the stories she tells, it seems as though Fern was relatively happy in Empire, Nevada. You see, Empire was one of those many American small towns built around industry. When the gypsum plant closed, the town of Empire quite literally closed with it. In six months, its entire zip code was eliminated – can you even imagine?

During what seems like a nightmare, Fern’s husband passes away, leaving her alone and, well, she likes the word “houseless” more than “homeless.” Fern decides to hit the road in search of work as a seasonal employee at an Amazon center, and begins living in her van. And that is where the journey begins.

Soon Fern gets involved with a group of modern nomads, who are doing the same thing she is. Capturing the beauty of the country one stop at a time. Fern is one of those people that makes friends everywhere she goes, the way she interacts with people is so beautiful. As someone who travels, and talks to people on the trail it\’s a genuine bond that you can create with strangers and Nomadland depicts that perfectly.

What I found interesting and unique was that the people Fern meets along the way are non-actors, they\’re real people who are living this life. You hear genuine stories about not wanting to die before their dreams of traveling the country are fulfilled, they share tips of survival and safety on the road. They support each other and that is what makes this movie special. It\’s raw, beautiful and genuine.

If you\’re looking for something to watch this weekend grab some popcorn and watch Nomadland, you won\’t regret it.
