Polish Village Cafe

A and I were talking a few weeks back and he found out I have never had a pierogi before – yes I realize I lived in Pittsburgh, however I never had one the entire time I was there! This resulted in him making us pierogies, salad and potatoes for dinner (he’s a really good cook – like really good ladies!). After dinner he told me he wanted to take me to a restaurant in Hamtramck to try out “real” pierogies (not ones from the freezer that he cooked). So of course after an event one night we made a stop at the Polish Village Café in Hamtramck. Since this was my first time ever going to a Polish restaurant he made sure to order us the essentials to share, which included dill pickle soup, pierogies and potato pancakes. As someone who LOVES pickles, I was a huge fan of the dill pickle soup. Since I have now tried Polish food, what should I try next?

Five Things

 {my Valentine surprised me with the pretties bouquet of pink flowers}

Recently I have found myself very frustrated in multiple areas of my life. Between my mood and the lack of sunshine the negative energy surrounding me has been unbearable. I took a moment to reflect and have a meltdown, before I pulled myself together and got back into my happy and bubbly ways. Here’s five ways I filled my week with positivity….

 {homemade Caesar salad – the dressing was amazing}
 {got the Mazda CX-5 stuck twice in the snow}
 {went on a snowy hike}
{when you\’re both from Utica – you don\’t miss the ice festival}

5 Dates to Beat the Winter Blues

Living in Michigan when February rolls around we hardly see any days with the sun. The lack of sunshine makes it easy for anyone to just bunker down. Before you realize it you’re five-seasons deep in a seven-season show. Don’t get stuck in this slump, I have five date night ideas for you that’ll help you beat the winter blues. No significant other? No problem! These ideas are perfect for you and your girlfriends as well.
Chopped!
Decide on who will make dinner and who is making dessert. Write down three ingredients that the other person has to use, and head to the grocery store to get what you need to cook your portion of the meal and just like Food Network’s Chopped ‘get cookin’ when you get home. Give yourselves thirty minutes to create your dinner and dessert masterpieces.
Evening out
Divvy up the planning process, one person picks the restaurant and the other chooses the evening’s post dinner activity. It’s a great way to collaborate on a night out instead of everything being one-sided.

Enjoy a five-course dinner… at five different places
Pick a place to grab an appetizer, one to enjoy soup and salad, another for a main course to split, head to another for another main course and round out the evening with dessert.

Release your inner child
Head to the store and buy those cheap plastic sleds you used as a kid, head for the hills, when you’re finished wind down with a cup of cocoa.

Have simple fun with a black tie twist
Get dressed in your best, and head to your local bowling alley for a fun filled evening.

Lauren Gleisberg 30 x 30

Like most girls I have tried my fair share of fade diets, workouts (Brazilian Butt Lift anyone haha), and more. When it comes to eating I have learned that I do best when I live an 80-20 lifestyle – I mean sometimes a girl just wants some dessert. I have been following the Tone It Up nutrition and fitness plans for awhile, however I haven’t been seeing the results that I had hoped for. As someone who was in the overweight range until college, I know that I definitely struggle a lot with my body. After the TIU tour in Chicago I decided to lay off TIU for a while. I left it behind for a few reasons one being I really don’t like their foods, protein powder upsets my stomach and I would rather eat real food with protein instead of filling my body with supplements. Also, the Meta-D shots were literally ripping the enamel from my teeth.

Now that TIU was out I wondered if I could structure workouts and meals on my own, and the truth was I do better with a base of ideas for food, and even better when I have a workout plan to actually follow. My friend Katie introduced me to Lauren Gleisberg, and let me tell you – I am currently LOVING her meal plans. I’ll be honest I don’t follow them exactly, however they are real food and I love that I am not filling my body with supplements. Her workouts are great too. My life has been super chaotic lately and I have decided that I am restarting the 30×30 so I can actually do the whole thing and see the results. After 30 days I will let you know what I thought of the workouts and plan – and what kind of results I saw. Do you follow a nutrition and workout plan?
