Michiganders! Have you heard the news? Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards including best musical and the 2020 Grammy award for best musical theater albumHadestown is coming to the Fisher Theater in Detroit!
Hadestown, the winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards® including Best New Musical and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, will come to Detroit in 2021. As part of the 2021-22 Broadway in Detroit Subscription Season, the show will play the Fisher Theatre, November 23 – December 5, 2021.
Individual tickets for Hadestown start at $59 and will go on sale Friday, September 24 online at Ticketmaster.com, by phone at 800-982-2787, and in person at the Fisher Theatre Box Office.
Hadestown is the most honored show of the 2018-2019 Broadway season. In addition to the show’s eight Tony Awards®, it has been honored with four Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical.
The acclaimed new musical is by celebrated singer-songwriter and Tony Award® winner Anaïs Mitchell and developed with innovative director and Tony Award® winner Rachel Chavkin. Hadestown marks the first time in over a decade that a woman has been the solo author of a musical: writing the music, lyrics, and book, and is the fourth time in Broadway history a woman has accomplished this creative feat.
“It roars off the stage with a ferocity that has not been matched on Broadway in a long while.”
Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune
Producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy said jointly, “Throughout its development, Hadestown has been deeply influenced by audiences around the world. We are thrilled and humbled to now share this beautiful story of hope, faith, and rebirth – written and directed by two amazingly talented women and brought to life by a diverse company of performers – with audiences across North America.”
The show originated as Mitchell’s indie theater project that toured Vermont which she then turned into an acclaimed album. With Chavkin, her artistic collaborator, Hadestown has been transformed into a genre-defying new musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.
The show opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway (219 West 48th Street, New York) on April 17, 2019, where it played sold out houses nightly before performances were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hadestown resumed performances September 2, 2021 as the first musical to reopen on Broadway.
The North American touring production of Hadestown stars Drama Desk Award® nominee Nicholas Barasch as Orpheus, Morgan Siobhan Green as Eurydice, Tony Award winner Levi Kreis as Hermes, Kimberly Marable as Persephone, and Olivier Award® nominee Kevyn Morrow as Hades.
The Fates are played by Belén Moyano, Bex Odorisio, and Shea Renne. The Workers Chorus features Lindsey Hailes, Chibueze Ihuoma, Will Mann, Sydney Parra, and Jamari Johnson Williams. The swings for the touring production include Kimberly Immanuel, Alex Lugo, Eddie Noel Rodríguez, and Nathan Salstone.
Following two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, Hadestown delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
Welcome to the intriguing and beautiful world of “your next musical theater obsession.”

The creative team features Tony Award® winner Rachel Hauck (set design); four-time Tony Award® nominee Michael Krass (costume design); two-time Tony Award® winner Bradley King (lighting design); Tony Award® winners Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz (sound design); Chita Rivera Award® winner and three-time Bessie Award® winner David Neumann (choreography); Liam Robinson (music supervision and vocal arrangements); Tony Award® winners Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose (arrangements and orchestrations); Ken Cerniglia (dramaturgy); and Stewart/Whitley (casting).
Hadestown electrified audiences with its 2016 world premiere at New York Theatre Workshop, which is the longest-running show in that celebrated theater’s 40-year history. The production then received its Canadian premiere at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre in 2017 and then a 2018 sold-out engagement at the London’s National Theatre. Hadestown was developed with funding from the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center and was further developed by The Ground Floor at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Hadestown was co-conceived by Ben t. Matchstick.
The Grammy® winning Hadestown Original Broadway Cast Recording is now available at Hadestown.com/music. The album is produced by David Lai, Sickafoose, and Mitchell on Sing It Again Records.

One thing I loved in 2020 was the fact that every time I stepped out of the house, my face needed to be adorned with a mask. That meant only mascara for me. Anyone else ditch the foundation, blush, bronzer and lip colors? My beauty statement definitely went to my nails. Prior to 2020 I would polish my nails and then when it chipped remove the polish and go a couple weeks with nude nails. That all changed in 2020. I started polishing my nails weekly. The colors became a beauty statement, and I have continued the trend through 2021.
With summer slowly coming to an end (it’s 85 degrees here in Michigan today), it’s time to get a head start on a fall beauty routine. When it comes to beauty kitten eyes (smaller cat eye flick), dewy glowy skin and long luscious lashes are where it’s at. But when it comes to fall 2021 nail colors it’s all about earthy solids and tried and true classics. And I am PUMPED! Looking to learn more about the latest beauty trends or wanting to buy beauty products? Organic Bunny is a one stop shop for all your beauty needs.
For fall 2021 nail trends think moss greens, brownish reds and my personal favorite mustard yellows.
Green has been making a statement all year long, but this fall it’s coming back better than ever. Ditch the lime and kelly greens and reach for a muted neutral green. The best part about mossy green is it looks gorgeous across a lot of different skin tones and the earthy hue has a grounded vibe to it.
Are you a fan of neutral nail polish hues? They’re my go-to especially when I have to go to the office for work. Fall 2021 is taking our favorite neutral look, and putting a spin on it by adding the slightest hint of sparkle and I am here for it. Hello rose gold nails.
3. Opaque nudes
When my nails are not adorned in moody colors, I love to play with creamy nudes. It’s a clean, crisp and classic nail color that you can’t go wrong with.
4. Mustard yellow
It wouldn’t be fall without crisp, yellow leaves. Have you seen how gorgeous Colorado looks in the fall with those golden leaves? Mustard yellow is easily one of my favorite shades to wear on my nails during September and October. The color is reminiscent of falling leaves. The best thing about mustard yellow is it pairs great with a lot of different skin tones.
5. Classic red
Spring, summer, winter or fall red nails always seem to make an appearance and that’s because it is such a timeless and classic color. To offset those earthy tones, why not go for a classic red?
6. Moody blues
When I first saw that moody blue was a hot trend for fall 2021 I thought “well that came out of left field”. Typically fall is all about warm reds, moody purples, rich wines, mustard and earthy tones. But this fall stormy blues will be all the rage. From midnight shades to cornflower blue, make sure you have a moody blue in your rotation this fall. I am thinking maybe middle of November a stormy blue would be gorgeous.
7. Milk chocolate
Not sure if you want to wear red or brown nail polish? Why not go for a hybrid of both this fall. One of the hottest nail trends for 2021 is a combination of red and brown which gives you a milk chocolate/Mexican hot chocolate hue that is a stunner.
8. Light gray
One of my favorite fall 2021 nail polish trend is a frosty washed out gray. The first OPI nail polish color I ever bought was You Don’t Know Jacques and at least 8 bottles later it is still my number one favorite color for fall. So you can imagine my excitement seeing gray making the fall list make the fall 2021 nail polish trends list.
9. Glitter
All that glitters is gold and you can’t beat adding an accent nail of gold.

Have you been to the best u-pick flower farm in Metro Detroit yet? If your answer is no, what you are waiting for? Van Houtte Farm is my absolute favorite u-pick sunflower and wildflower farm in Metro Detroit. The staff is incredible, the prices are reasonable and things just got even cuter at the farm with the new boho wagon.
Boho is all the rage right now and Van Houtte Farm located in Armada, Michigan just took the trend to the next level with their boho wagon. If you’re looking for a unique photo opportunity in Metro Detroit, as well as picking some beautiful flowers, look no further than Van Houtte U-Pick Flower Farm.

I saw Come From Away in 2019 live on stage and let me tell you I was absolutely blown away. I had never heard of Come From Away before, and walked inside the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, Michigan not knowing what to expect.
To my surprise it was based on the true story of 7,000 people stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland after all flights into the US became grounded on September 11, 2021. And let me tell you, it’s the story we never heard and all deserved to hear.
Come From Away on Apple TV+ is the filmed version of the award-winning Broadway musical, and it’s just as good watching it on my laptop as it was watching the performance live.
Come From Away is a Broadway musical about 7,000 people who become stranded in the small town of Grander, Newfoundland when all the flights into the United States became grounded on September 11, 2021. The kind people of Newfoundland graciously welcomed the “come from aways” into their community.
Newfoundland didn’t have the hotels or capacity for the 7,000 people who suddenly became stranded. What they did have was beautiful hearts, and the people of Newfoundland actually took these strangers into their home.
Together the “come from aways” and locals processed what was happening in New York City on this horrific day they ended up finding laughing, love and new hope. Some of the “come from aways” met their forever mate and returned to Newfoundland for their honeymoon, others found forever friends and a new vacation. One thing was for sure, the people of Newfoundland didn’t have to do what they did, but they opened their hearts and the story is unreal.
Come From Away on Apple TV+ is directed by Tony Award-winner Christopher Ashley, who directed the original production. This live performance of Come From Away was filmed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City for an audience which included 9/11 survivors and front-line workers.
I can’t recommend Come From Away enough, and I hope you’ll check it out when it premiers globally on Apple TV+ tomorrow September 10, 2021.
