Coming to Detroit: CHICAGO

Pop, Six, Squish, Uh-Uh, Cicero, Lipschitz! Detroit had it coming. You\’ll only have yourself to blame, if you\’re not there and aren\’t seeing it. Will you be there when CHICAGO takes the stage at the Fisher Theatre October 16-21?

CHICAGO will appear at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre, October 16-21, 2018. Tickets start at $39 and go on sale Sunday, August 5. With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, CHICAGO is now the #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history — and it still shows no sign of ever slowing down!
Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, CHICAGO is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
The national tour is directed by David Hyslop and choreographed by David Bushman.  Walter Bobbie is the director of the original New York Productionand Ann Reinking was the original choreographer in the style of Bob Fosse. CHICAGO features set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Ken Billington and sound design by Scott Lehrer. The production also features orchestrations byRalph Burns, supervising music direction by Rob Fisher.
CHICAGO is a production not to be missed. And all the reviewers agree. Time Magazine calls it “A Triumph,” Newsweek raves “Smashing” and Entertainment Weekly sums it up by calling CHICAGO “Broadway’s Most Electrifying Show.”

MOD Pizza: The Isaac

this is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own.

I recently tried MOD Pizza for the first time, and I am not really sure why it\’s taken me this long to try MOD. One thing I LOVE is you can get AS MANY toppings on your pizza as you want, without being charged extra. MOD offers a special seasonal pizza, and right now it\’s the Isaac. The Isaac is available at all locations, and features olive oil, garlic, ricotta, red onion, roasted grape tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette and basil. Not only is this pizza delicious it\’s making a big impact. Did you know that in the United States, suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-35. This pizza was inspired by a brilliant young man whose life ended too soon. As someone who lost a friend to suicide his story really hit home, and that\’s why I really wanted to get the word out about this pizza. This pizza is helping MOD donate a minimum of $50,000 to The Jed Foundation which is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to protecting emotional health and preventing suicide for our nation\’s teens and young adults. If you\’re thinking of getting a pizza I highly recommend heading to MOD and getting an Isaac.

Who Run the World? GIRLS!

photo found on Pinterest. this is a sponsored post

The great James Brown sang, this is a man’s world, but it wouldn’t be nothing without a women or a girl. In the 90’s the Spice Girls hit center stage bringing girl power. While the corporate world tends to be filled with powerful men in suits, it doesn’t mean women cannot take the world by storm. It’s amazing how things have changed and what women are doing to push the envelope in business, technology and more. Strong, powerful and amazing women are running some of our favorite brands from Thirty-One to Origami Owl and so many more, women are paving the way for other women to show that girl power exist.  Have you heard of Chrissy Weems? If not I bet you’ve heard of her brand Origami Owl. This brand began with Bella, she wanted to earn enough money to purchase a car when she turned 16 – how many of you ladies can relate to this? I know I personally couldn’t afford a car at 16, in fact I was given my great grandmas Oldsmobile when so I could get back and forth to college. The car was a literally piece of crap, and on a couple occasions I had to call my dad, because my headlights went out at 5 o’clock in the morning and I had a class I needed to be at and couldn’t miss. So I totally get Bella wanting to be proactive and not ending up with a lemon like I did. Bella’s story is different she had a BA mom who supported her along with two family friends Shawn and Tyson, which brought the dream of Origami Owl to life. If you don’t know what Origami Owl is, you’re about to want to have a party of your own. The jewelry is customizable, that’s right YOU shine through in your jewelry it’s all about you. It’s amazing to think that ones females dream of just being able to pay for a car became a huge successful business. It makes me so proud to be a female, knowing that these powerhouses have paved the way for me to be successful as well, they’ve given me the strength to strive for the best and really go after my dreams and really that’s what this is all about isn’t it? Being the best version of yourself and going after what you want. Think about the women who are working on life saving medications, and the ones that are paving the way for your daughters to do whatever they want to do in life without a man holding them back. After reading about Chrissy Weems and her story, the journey and the creation of Origami Owl, it made me love the brand even more. I already own a couple pieces of jewelry, and will be buying another one in the upcoming weeks for a friend who is engaged. I hope any girl who thinks she isn’t good enough to do something, or thinks that she can’t do it because she is a girl realizes that girls run the world, and little lady you can do anything.

PlateJoy

this post is sponsored by PlateJoy all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Have you ever found yourself in a new relationship, and date night consists of dining out or going for dessert. You’re in the relationship for a few months and you’re still eating out, because let’s face it you’re both tired after a long day of work. Then one day one of you says why don’t we make something at home, but what? That’s what I was going through. My boyfriend can eat whatever he wants without gaining an ounce, and I so much as look at a slice of pizza and I’ve put on five pounds. After me denying eating out we decided to start doing some cooking at his place.

Now the hard part comes in:
What do we have that we can use?
What should we make?
What do we need from the grocery store?
Can we make something healthy that he will like too?
Is there an app for this?

The good news, there is an app for that and it’s called PlateJoy. PlateJoy is a personalized meal planning app that makes healthy eating easy and delicious. When I started the app it had me take a lifestyle quiz that asked about my tastes, family size schedule, health goals and more. Once I answered the questions I received my custom-designed meal plan…

The app generates a shopping list based on what is needed for the upcoming week, the list even gives you the option to choose what you already have in your kitchen.

Below are some thoughts on this app.
1. It makes starting a new lifestyle plan easy.
2. Very accommodating – low-carb, vegan, paleo, weight loss and more.

Restaurant Review: Applebee\’s & IHOP Combo Restaurant

The GMRENCEN partnered with me for this experience. All opinions expressed in this piece are my own.

Detroit has one of the best foodie scenes around and it just got cooler with the addition of the first-ever Applebee\’s & IHOP combo restaurant. When you walk in the atmosphere is relaxed there is the IHOP Express Bar, buffet area, dining space, 21 and up lounge and of course the bar area. I will admit the infusion of both restaurants together had me thinking they were nuts, but after going and trying things out I was definitely very impressed.

Did you know?

• Breakfast is served all day long.
• IHOP has an express bar that will get you in and out quickly
• The Buffet is designed to get people in the city in and out of the restaurant quickly and easily.
• With different food combinations offered daily to keep things fresh and new this is definitely a place you want to add to your list. The buffet area has community seating for a friendly dining experience.
• Meeting room has an entire wall dedicated to a dry erase board, which makes your meetings even easier to host.

We started the evening with the Boneless Wings as our appetizer. The wings are crispy breaded pieces of boneless chicken tossed in your choice of Classic Hot Buffalo sauce, Honey BBQ sauce or Sweet Asian chile sauce. We went with the Sweet Asian chile sauce, and it did not disappoint. These boneless wings had just the right amount of kick.

Drinks
As you may or may not know I do not drink…. at all. However my date for the evening does and he gave two of their signature cocktails a try. Rye Not? start your evening with high quality Manhattan, which I was told was the best Manhattan he has ever tasted. He also tried the Poloma de Fresa which he enjoyed as well. What’s really nice is they have a variety of local beers and liquors that they serve showing they’re really dedicated to Detroit. All the cocktails are spirit forward, therefore each one lets the ingredients do the talking.

Main courses
I ordered the Cedar Grilled Lemon Chicken which is cedar-seasoned grilled chicken on cranberry-pecan rice and quinoa with Granny Smith apple relish and lemon vinaigrette. This was one of the healthier options on the menu, and came in at just 600 calories and 43 grams of protein. This dish was definitely delicious, and packed with a ton of flavor which sometimes is lacked in healthier food options.

He ordered a Half Rack of Double-Glazed Baby Back Ribs. Slow-cooked to fall-off-the-bone tenderness and slathered in your choice of Spicy Texas BBQ sauce or Honey BBQ sauce (he went with spicy Texas). The verdict, these ribs were really good and did fall off the bone.

Dessert
One thing I really like about A is he always wants dessert, and even if he doesn’t he can be talked into it. One thing we have in common is we both have a thing for sprinkles (obv I do more than he does, but it works). Instead of going for a traditional dessert we took it to the next level and ordered the Cupcake Pancakes off the IHOP portion of the menu. The Cupcake Pancakes come as a stack of four buttermilk pancakes that are filled with festive rainbow sprinkles and topped with cupcake icing, more sprinkles and of course whipped cream. The pancakes tasted just like a cupcake, and while they are insanely sweet they are so good. If you are a confetti cake, sprinkles on ice cream and everywhere else lover I cannot recommend these pancakes enough.

Overall the experience at the restaurant was A+
