Happy Labor Day

Off to Lake Michigan.

I am currently savoring the last days of summer soaking up rays in Ludington along Lake Michigan. With a bit of luck I will return home with some new clothes from Birch Run (an outlet mall) that we’ll pass along the way. Hope you are having a great long weekend, and I will be back tomorrow with lots to share.

Crave or Save: Polka Dot Chambray

Chambray has been all the rage throughout summer, and the trend is sticking strong as we head into fall. I personally do not like how I look in a collared button up shirt, so this trend wasn’t something I even considered. That is until I saw Reese Witherspoon is the cutest polka dotted chambray top.  It looks like her top was from J.Crew, but with a $88 price tag for a shirt I may only wear a handful of times I am going with Old Navy’s bolder polka dotted chambray that I will fade myself. Which top do you prefer?

Gilded

Between seasons can be tricky when it comes to picking polish colors. Not ready for the vampy varnish, and neon just doesn’t seem suitable. Linking the two seasons is easier than you think. Start with a bright polish base and top with a gilded touch for the perfect summer to fall accessory.

1. Remove any previous polish.

2. Paint nails with a base coat or nail hardener.
3. Polish nails with two coats of your chosen polish.
4. Paint gold directly onto a cosmetic wedge.
5. Dab the sponge onto your nails with the focus at the tip.
6. Repeat until you reach your desired look.
7. Add a top coat.
8. Clean up around your nails with a Q-tip dipped in nail polish remover.

Patriotic Cupcakes

Labor Day marks the end of summer, and there is no better way to spend it then up north savoring the last of what summer has to offer. This year I have decided to bring cupcakes. They’re classic yellow cupcakes (I used a box mix – Duncan Hines) in patriotic liners, with homemade whipped creamfrosting, a cream filled center, topped with a strawberry cut in half and two blueberries. They make a cute addition to any patriotic get together.
