No Day But Today

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes, how do you measure – measure a year? I recently saw Rent 20thAnniversary Tour on Broadway at the Fisher Theatre in downtown Detroit, and it was AMAZING! For me Rent holds a special place in my heart. Rent came out on DVD when I was in college and friends and I watched it… well an embarrassing number of times. So when I had the opportunity to see it live on Broadway, you know I obviously couldn’t pass it up – however it was a little bittersweet without my friends from college. I found myself comparing this show a lot to the original company, which isn’t fair when it had such a powerhouse like Idina Menzel. This company did have some serious pipes though, and really hit some crazy notes. The scene when Angel passes away almost had me in tears it was so beautiful. If this tour comes to your city I highly recommend seeing it, as it definitely will not disappoint.

Spring To Do List

Happy first day of SPRING! I am so excited for longer days and warmer weather. In anticipation of everything in bloom I started to compile a list of things that I want to do this spring. Here are 15 things on my list – what’s on yours?

Watch the sunrise
Enjoy sunsets
Donate clothes I haven’t worn in the past year
Try a new workout class
Spring clean
Buy fresh flowers
Have a picnic in the park
Try a new bright lip color
Decorate with potted plants and spring décor
Splurge on a new sundress
Host a Sunday brunch
Go for a random road trip
Plan a day to somewhere new
Get fresh produce at a farmer’s market
Try new salads with fresh ingredients

Lucky Charm

St. Patrick’s Day isn’t a day I care about – I don’t drink so I am not involved in any of the shenanigans that take place. However, I was recently at Walmart with my mum and came across this box of limited edition Lucky Charms with green clovers I just couldn’t pass it up. If you’ve been following my blog for a while you know that I am a huge fan of marshmallow treats, and while in college my friends and I experimented with almost every cereal (Captain Crunch is my fav!). I recently took some Cheerio treats to a friends house for an Oscar party, so I knew exactly what I would do with the Lucky Charms…. make marshmallow treats.

Charming Treats
Ingredients
3 tablespoons butter
4 cups mini marshmallows
6 cups Lucky Charms

Directions
1. In a large saucepan melt butter over low heat.
2. Add marshmallows.
3. Stir until melted.
4. Remove from heat.
5. Add Lucky Charms.
6. Stir until well coated.
7. Place treats into a 13×9 pan coated with coating spray or butter.

Broadway In Detroit 2017-2018 Subscription Shows

Love Never Dies, a story of boundless love, full of passion and drama, follows Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, one of the most successful musicals of all time, which has now been seen by more than 130 million people worldwide and is the winner of over 50 international awards. The ultimate love story continues in Love Never Dies. The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak shows of Coney Island. In this new, electrically charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar, but he has never stopped yearning for his one true love and musical protégée, Christine Daaé.

An American in Paris is the new Tony Award ®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award ®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin in the show that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2015 season! The New York Times raves “An American in Parisis a triumph!  Pure joy!” and the Wall Street Journal declares, “Once you’ve seen it, you’ll find it hard to settle for less ever again.”  Don’t miss this stunning Broadway hit when it appears in Detroit on its first national tour!

The Bodyguard, the award-winning musical based on the smash hit film, will star Grammy® Award-nominee and R&B superstar Deborah Cox.  Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker.  Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love.  A breathtakingly romantic thriller, The Body Guardfeatures a host of irresistible classics including “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “One Moment in Time,” “Saving All My Love,” “Run to You,” “I Have Nothing,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and one of the biggest selling songs of all time — “I Will Always Love You.”

The winner of Broadway.com’s Audience Choice Award for Best Musical, Finding Neverland “captures the kid-at-heart,” says Time Magazine. Directed by visionary Tony ®-winner Diane Paulus and based on the critically-acclaimed Academy Award ®-winning film, Finding Neverland tells the story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan. Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration until he meets four young brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys’ enchanting make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatergoers. With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes this monumental leap, leaving his old world behind for Neverland where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever. Finding Neverland is “far and away the best musical of the year!” (NPR)

School of Rock is a New York TimesCritics’ Pick and “an inspiring jolt of energy, joy and mad skillz!” (Entertainment Weekly). Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. This high-octane smash features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, all the original songs from the movie and musical theater’s first-ever kids rock band playing their instruments live on stage. Vanity Fair raves, “Fists of all ages will be pumping!”

From international superstardom to life-threatening tragedy, On Your Feet! takes you behind the music and inside the real story of this record-making and groundbreaking couple who, in the face of adversity, found a way to end up on their feet. From their humble beginnings in Cuba, Emilio and Gloria Estefan came to America and broke through all barriers to become a crossover sensation at the very top of the pop music world. But just when they thought they had it all, they almost lost everything. Directed by two-time Tony Award ® winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), with choreography by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and an original book by Academy Award ® winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman), On Your Feet! features some of the most iconic songs of the past quarter-century—and one of the most inspiring stories in music history
