Restaurant Review: Townhouse

Detroit has one of the hottest foodie scenes around; you can get anything from a burger at Shake Shack to all the meat you can handle at Texas de Brazil. After spending the morning walking around various parts of Detroit we decided to get some food at Townhouse. We split an order of truffle fries and a cobb salad (boy gets my balance, haha). They’re truffle fries were so good, I think they might even be better than CHOMP’s and you know I’m addicted to their truffle fries.  The cobb salad was delicious and featured all my favorites: baby romaine, avocado, chicken, onion, radish, bacon and pineapple with ranch (on the side of course). We dined outside, and I would highly recommend Townhouse as a place for you and your significant other or girls to go. They also have a brunch menu too, because who doesn’t love to brunch?

Chasing the Northern Lights

Rumor had it that Friday and Saturday the Northern Lights were going to be shining bright – even down here in the Metro Detroit area. Obviously if there was any chance of seeing them it would be a must to skip town and get away from light pollution, and that’s just what we did. With a car full of blankets, pillows and a cooler (he was prepared – I wasn’t for probably the first time in my life), we headed out of the city and into the thumb (perk of living in a hand shape state this is really how we speak – and point to where we live on our hand). I have never been anywhere in the thumb before, so even though it was dark it was still a neat adventure. While we didn’t get to see the Northern Lights (heart breaks slightly), we did see a ton of stars dance across the sky, and watched the moon come up from the horizon, which was probably one of the coolest things I have seen in awhile. We also took a little walk on the pier, and drove through some adorable towns. While chasing the Northern Lights was a fail the night was more than I could have ever asked for.

Fall To-Do List

I know, I know the first “official” day of fall is not until September 22 – however in my world as soon as Labor Day is over it’s time to fall into boots, sweater dresses and begin to wait for the leaves to change. Per usual, I have come up with a list of all the things I would like to do this fall, some of these are repeats (during fall there are specific things that I love to do), and some are new. Without further ado, here is my fall list….

Hit the orchard for apple picking
Visit Yates (my favorite) Cider Mill
Snuggle by a fire
Tailgate a football game
Wear dark nail polish
Pick pumpkins at the orchard
Carve pumpkins
Get spooked at a haunted house
Head up north to check out the colors
Make a pie
ATV riding
Enjoy a bonfire and s’mores of course
Stargaze bundled in blankets
Go kayaking or canoeing and check out the color
Make caramel apples
Have a hot chocolate date
Get lost in a corn maze
Go on a hayride
Head out for a color hike

Rix’s Roof Top

Did you know when it comes to dating some people still like there to be a bit of surprise….. yeah, me neither – but apparently that’s still a thing. I asked where we would be going (a girl has to know how to dress), and I was told he wanted to keep it a surprise and that it was a nicer place. I kept my outfit simple and wore a long LBD, and added some loose beach waves to my hair (tutorial coming soon). He arrived to pick me up, opened my door – ladies chivalry is not dead in the Midwest…..I know it’s live and well for you Southerns (super jealous!), but I was pretty convinced it was dead around these parts. So where was this big surprise at? Rix’s Roof Top in Port Huron. Neither of us had tried the restaurant before, and I had never been to Port Huron so definitely a fun surprise. Rix’s Roof Top, which is actually a top floor view not rooftop just an FYI offers a gorgeous view of the Blue Water Bridge to Canada and the surrounding landscape. You know I have a thing for views, and this one did not disappoint.

Since I was being a super indecisive royal pain we started with Calamari, which I never had before and actually really liked. As for our main meals, I ordered the chicken marsala with noodles since the waitress said a lot of people really liked it a lot – definitely tasted good. He ordered the pork loin, also very delicious. All in all pretty impressive place, good food and great view.
