Movie Review: The War with Grandpa

Michigander\’s movie theaters open back up today, and if you\’re like me you\’re looking for some movie theater popcorn and a good laugh. Lucky for you The War with Grandpa is being released today at a theater near you. 

My summary of The War with Grandpa
The War with Grandpa is based on the award-winning book by Robert Kimmel Smith and features a hilarious all-star cast including Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, Robert Riggle, Cheech Marin, Jane Seymour, and more. 

Newly widowed Ed (Robert De Niro) is forced to move out of his home and into his daughter\’s house with her and her family. Ed is given Peter\’s (Oakes Fegley) bedroom, and Peter does not take it lightly. Peter is upset that he has to give up his bedroom and move to the attic. He blames his grandpa and slips a declaration of war note under his grandpa\’s bedroom door. What is the declaration of war? Basically, Peter devises a series of elaborate pranks to drive out his grandpa Ed without a fight. 

Grandpa Ed tries to peacefully resolve things, but Peter isn\’t having it. He wants his room back. This results in both Peter and Grandpa Ed going head to head with pranks, and war is definitely on. Since things are not being resolved they decide to go head to head in a hilarious game of dodgeball. Where new school (Peter and his friends) go against old school (Grandpa Ed and his friends). The dodgeball game ends in a tie, and the war begins to go all out. 

The War with Grandpa keeps you hooked and entertained throughout the entire movie. 

Overall thoughts about The War with Grandpa
When you see Robert De Niro is in the movie, you expect it to be funny and The War with Grandpa did not disappoint. Not only was the movie funny, it actually kept me hooked throughout and it felt reminiscent of the Home Alone movies. If you\’re looking to have a good laugh, I highly recommend checking out The War with Grandpa this weekend!

About The War With Grandpa
Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid-he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter\’s family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won\’t go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences.
