Georgia Peach

The warm weather has me craving something frozen to drink by midday and my current go-to is a copycat version of the Cheesecake Factory’s Georgia Peach drink. To make: Combine 2 ounces vodka, 1 ounce peach liqueur, ½ cup peach slices (fresh or frozen) and ½ cup crushed ice in a blender. Add ¼ cup raspberry juice (I squeezed raspberries in cheesecloth) and blend briefly. Pour into two glasses garnish with a mint leaf, raspberry or peach slice and enjoy. Of course since I don’t drink I followed the same recipe but left out the alcohol and added water as well as extra raspberry juice.

Blissful State of Summer

{Afternoons at the beach require cute totes like this one from Nantucket Brand}

Despite the fact that summer officially arrived weeks ago the weather here has been less than perfect. That is until this past week when temperatures outside started holding steady at an uncomfortable temperature. Leaving my weekend filled with beach days, dune hikes, bike rides, cherry limeade, fireworks and a trip out on Lake Michigan, leaving me in a blissful state of summer delight.

How To: Beach Bun

Living in a beach town you tend to spend a good portion of time at the beach. As a result buns, ponytails and chignons become daily essentials. My current favorite is the beach bun or nautical knot. Not only does it keep the hair off your neck, but also even when you have flyaway’s or it starts to fall out it still looks chic.

Step 1: Tie your hair into a ponytail.

Step 2: Separate the ponytail into two pieces.

Step 3: Take the two pieces and simply tie them in a knot. This is like when you begin to tie your shoes.

Step 4: Pull the knotted sides around the top of the bun and secure with bobby pins.

Summer Mix Tape Vol. 1

There’s something about the songs you listen to during a summer that become engrained in your head for years to come. While songs like “Footloose” reminds me of dorm dance offs and “Hot N Cold” brings back memories of hikes up Sugarloaf. Of course new songs are added and old ones are replaced. Here’s a little glimpse at my summer mix tape. What are your go-to songs for summer?
