Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Potatoes

Anyone love roasted vegetables? This past weekend I was craving brussels sprouts – weird I know! Nonetheless, craving them. I had a bag in the freezer that I let thaw out, once thawed I halved the sprouts, placed them in a bowl, drizzled with Trader Joes garlic oil olive, sea salt and fresh ground pepper. I had a can of potatoes in the cabinet that I wanted to use so I cut that up as well and tossed into the bowl with the brussels sprouts. I covered a pan with foil, dispersed the veggies on it evenly and placed in a 400-degree oven for 35 minutes turning once. These veggies are great on their own, however my favorite way to enjoy them is with eggs.

Discover Michigan Skiing

If you’ve paid attention to my blog or any of my social channels you know that one thing I really wanted to try this winter was skiing. Honestly, I don’t know how I went to school in da yoop (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) and never skied – not even once. Anyway, I found out that January is Discover Michigan Skiing, and you can take an hour beginner lesson (ski or snowboard) which includes rental of equipment and a ski lift pass for just $35 – sign me up…right?
This past Sunday I took my lesson at Pine Knob, and I’ll be honest when I got there I was incredibly nervous. I love winter activities; however going down steep slopes (even sledding) is not something that I enjoy. After a lot of back and forth I went in and got all my ski equipment and headed out for the lesson. The two instructors were great, they watched what we were doing carefully and gave tips that really helped get the most out of the lesson.
I stayed at the very beginner “hill”, as I was working on gaining my confidence and courage to make it to the next level up. I can’t wait to go skiing again, however I will probably continue to stick with the smaller areas until I feel like I am ready to move up to something bigger. In all honesty getting off the chairlift freaks me out, so my current plan is to avoid that. However, my goal by the end of the season is to be on the chairlift at least once, and go down a real slope. Have you ever tried skiing or snowboarding? Any tips or words of encouragement are appreciated below haha.

Restaurant Review: O.W.L.

I have a weakness for hole in the wall dive places, especially irresistible ones like O.W.L., which is located on Woodward in Royal Oak. O.W.L. offers quick serve Mexican-America food, and a small but delicious menu. The boy and I enjoy trying out new places together – and I think he equally enjoys taking me places he’s been to that are amazing (I guess I’ll find out if he reads this and tells me no he doesn’t haha). We decided to share two dishes: Mahi Mahi tacos, which were on special that day and Cilantro Potatoes, Texas Toast and Habanero Bacon. The food was absolutely delicious; I especially liked the tacos (this was my first time trying Mahi Mahi). What’s the name of your favorite dive restaurant in your city?

This has been an absolutely exhausting week, but it was filled with a lot of fun and amazing experiences, which included dinner with the boy and some of his work family (really liked that he invited me out with them), media days at the North American International Auto Show, seeing the Bodyguard (absolutely amazing show that I highly recommend checking out). This weekend I will be checking out the fire and ice festival in Rochester and hitting up the slopes for my FIRST ski lesson – what are your weekend plans?

NAIAS 2018

The North American International Auto Show has touched down in Detroit, and I recently had the opportunity to check it out for media days thanks to A Girls Guide to Cars.  If you’re attending I highly recommend visiting Ford, because they have some super fun activities for you.  Don’t forget taking a trip to Jeep, that new Wrangler is gorgeous – I would love to hit the trails with it and dirty it up. Here’s a peek into what I saw…..
