Do you have a food you splurge on? For me it’s sourdough bread. I love getting it at the bakery or farmers market, but it comes with a hefty price tag. After purchasing cherry walnut sourdough for $15 I knew that I needed to stop being afraid of making it on my own, and just give it a try. Farm to Family a local farm out of Almont, Michigan not only offers local goodies, but sourdough classes, and so my journey into sourdough began.
My mum and I recently took the sourdough bread class at Farm to Family in Almont, Michigan with Amy. Let me tell you, I have been to A LOT of cooking classes before, and by far this is the BEST one I have EVER been to. Not only did Amy provide everyone in class with a sourdough starter, but she walked us through the step by step process of making sourdough bread from start to finish.
I learn best in person, especially in a hands on situation, and that is what the Farm to Family sourdough bread class provided. Amy offered tips and tricks, and answered any and all questions. The best part, Amy at Farm to Family provided hands on experience. We each got to feed our sourdough starter, learn how to make a batch of dough, feel the dough, roll out the dough, learn what the cooking sweet spot is, and just all around gain confidence to go home and feel like you can make sourdough bread on your own.
If you have any interest in learning to make sourdough bread there is only one class to take and that is with Amy at Farm to Family in Almont, Michigan. The sourdough class takes place at Amy’s family’s farm “Farm to Family”, where she opens the door to her home for you to come in and get a hands on experience. Plus, there is a cute store to shop and plenty of animals to see. Don’t forget to say hi to Dave the rooster. The entire vibe of the experience was positive, and I can’t recommend Amy’s sourdough bread class enough!
I have made four loaves of sourdough bread since taking the sourdough bread class at Farm to Family in Almont, Michigan and thanks to the hands on experience Amy provided each loaf turned out beautifully.
Thank you Amy for opening your home and being such an amazing teacher. I would have never been able to make sourdough bread without your assistance.
