Why Does the 3 Day Matter?

This post is sponsored, I participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® – all opinions are my own.

Four days prior to Day One of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® I posted on Facebook
“If you or someone you know has had breast cancer or lost their battle with breast cancer – please leave their name in the comments or message me. Thanks! Xoxo”

Let me tell you that was the moment I knew that I had made the right decision about being part of the 3-Day. I couldn’t even believe how many people had to go through something so horrific. From my friends who lost their mother to the ones that fought for their lives and everything in between it really touched home with me. For those of you that do not know my grandma is a breast cancer survivor and I lost three great great aunts and one great aunt to breast cancer – so participating in something this amazing really gave me feelings I cannot even explain.

During the walk I met so many amazing people from the ones going through treatment and survivors to the broken hearted who lost a loved one, and so many more. If you want to participate in something that will completely touch your heart you still have a chance!

Did you know that every 19 seconds, somewhere in the world a case of breast cancer is diagnosed in a woman, and every 60 seconds…. Yes every single minute of every single day somewhere in the world someone dies of breast cancer! Now is your chance to help make a change, here are some notable facts regarding how Susan G. Komen®  is making a difference:

1. Susan G. Komen® has invested more than $166 million in funding for over 400 research grants and more than 40 clinical trials focused on metastatic disease.

2.  Over the past 12 years, Komen has invested an average of more than 80 cents of every dollar directly into research, community-based health programs, education and advocacy programs to support its mission to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. (How AMAZING is that!)

3. On any given day, nearly 600 women receive a free screening mammogram made possible by a Susan G. Komen® community grant.

4. Worldwide, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women.

5. The Komen Breast Care Helpline offers free breast cancer support and counseling to anyone with questions or concerns: 1-877 GO KOMEN (1-877-465-6636) or helpline@komen.org. ( This is a great resource, and will give you the support you deserve in a time of need).

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® is going to be in Seattle (on my list of a place I want to participate I heard it’s absolutely AMAZING), Atlanta, Dallas Fort Worth and San Diego (where the party ends and doesn’t quit). Use code “ERICA10” to receive $10 off your registration.

Worried about getting fundraising? Here is a HUGE tip I learned while at the 3-Day – LOTS of companies will match your fundraising proceeds making it even easier to reach your raising goal. The best way is to reach out to people you know at various companies, write a formal letter that they can give to the manager of the company. Also, you do not want to outright ask for a donation – you want to ask from them to MATCH what you have fundraised, you’ll have better luck getting money for the cause this way.
